Ruto's Camp Give Mt Kenya Governor an Ultimatum to Pick Side Before Ol Kalou Votes Or Face Isolation

Political tensions are rising in Kenya ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election in Nyandarua County, with Governor Kiarie Badilisha facing mounting pressure to publicly align with a political faction.

Allies of William Ruto are reportedly demanding that the governor declare his political stance before the vote, warning that remaining neutral could lead to political isolation.

The contest, triggered by the death of area MP David Kiaraho, is shaping up to be a key test of loyalty within the region’s evolving political landscape.

Badilisha’s position has come under scrutiny amid speculation linking him to factions associated with Rigathi Gachagua, a development that has raised questions about his political direction.

Observers say his endorsement in the by-election could signal where he stands ahead of broader political realignments expected in the run-up to 2027.

The situation is further complicated by the large number of aspirants within the ruling United Democratic Alliance, with more than ten candidates reportedly vying for the seat.

This crowded field places additional pressure on the governor to choose sides in a contest that is already attracting significant attention.

Meanwhile, Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau has called for calm during the campaigns, urging candidates to avoid divisive rhetoric.

She emphasized the need for issue-based politics to maintain unity within the region, even as competition intensifies.

The party’s decision not to officially back any candidate has added another layer of complexity.

Analysts suggest that in the current political climate, neutrality is increasingly viewed as a sign of indecision or quiet dissent, rather than strategic caution.

As campaigns gather pace, the by-election is being closely watched as more than a local contest. Political observers believe the outcome could influence alliances within the Mt Kenya region and offer early signals about shifting loyalties ahead of future national elections.
