Rift Valley Counties Where Opposition Might Outsmart Kenya Kwanza in 2027(Opinion)

Rift Valley is considered president William Ruto's stronghold.

This is because Kalenjins who are his tribesmen are the dominant ethnic group in the region.

However, there are some counties in the Rift Valley where the opposition might outsmart the head of state in the next general election.

Among them are Trans Nzoia, Nakuru and Laikipia.

Trans Nzoia .Luhya community make the majority of Trans Nzoia population, followed by Kalenjins.

Other ethnic groups in the county include Luo, Gusii, Pokot and Maasai but are considered minority groups.

Currently, the two most popular politicians from Trans Nzoia are governor George Natembea and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa.

These two top Trans Nzoia leaders are in the united opposition. They are likely to rally the county behind the opposition in the upcoming election.

Nakuru.Majority of Nakuru residents are the Kikuyu community. Kalenjin are the second largest ethnic group in Nakuru county.

Other communities like the Gusii, Kamba, Luo, Maasai, Luhya among others also live in the county.

With the current political alignments, the Kikuyu, Kamba and Gusii are perceived to be in the opposition due to the influence of Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka and Fred Matiang'i respectively.

The Luo and Luhya could have swing votes this time round since the demise of Raila Odinga left them politically stranded.

It can therefore be said without doubt that only Kalenjins will support Ruto wholeheartedly in Nakuru.

Laikipia. This is another Rift Valley county whose majority of the population have roots from Mt Kenya region.

It's considered one of the Mt Kenya counties because of its huge population of the GEMA.

GEMA are majorly in the opposition and this means they will vote against Ruto.

The GEMA from in Laikipia are enough to make the opposition candidate beat Ruto I'm the county.
