Political analyst Herman Manyora has sparked debate following remarks shared on his YouTube channel about former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s possible strategy ahead of the 2027 general election.
Manyora suggests that the former Head of State could be quietly positioning his former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, as a potential challenger to President William Ruto in the upcoming vote.
According to the analyst, Matiang’i—often referred to as the “Super CS”—may be emerging as a serious contender in the race to succeed Ruto.
He notes that earlier speculation had linked former Health CS Mutahi Kagwe to leadership considerations, but attention appears to have shifted toward Matiang’i.
Manyora argues that Matiang’i’s reputation as a firm and effective administrator, especially during his time in government, could strengthen his appeal in the wake of recent political unrest and public protests.
He further speculates that Uhuru Kenyatta might seek to consolidate support in the Mount Kenya region by backing a ticket that includes Matiang’i alongside his son, Muhoho Kenyatta, as a possible running mate.
The analyst also warns that if Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki were to be chosen as Ruto’s running mate, the Mount Kenya region could become a highly contested political battleground, with competing elite interests shaping voter alignment.
Manyora’s remarks have fueled discussion online, with some viewing them as early political forecasting while others dismiss them as speculative scenarios ahead of the 2027 elections.
