Local leaders, a gesture that many interpreted as a message of reconciliation within ODM’s Siaya wing.
Their presence was also seen as an effort to consolidate support ahead of the upcoming Ugunja by-election later this month.
Governor Orengo reaffirmed his commitment to empowering women across the county, emphasizing that strong families start with financially independent women.
Oburu Oginga, on the other hand, used the event to rally support for ODM’s candidate Moses Omondi.
Saying the people of Ugunja must continue standing firmly with the Orange movement to protect its legacy.
The Ugunja gathering drew several other regional leaders and national figures, turning what began as a simple fundraising ceremony into a vibrant political affair.
Locals say the show of unity between Orengo and Oburu has restored confidence among ODM supporters who had been worried about internal cracks within the party’s Siaya leadership following Raila’s passing.
Analysts believe the event also sent a strong signal to rivals eyeing the Ugunja seat that ODM remains intact and firmly in control of Nyanza politics.
The renewed collaboration between Orengo and Oburu could mark the start of a more coordinated effort to keep Siaya under the Orange banner even as new political forces try to penetrate the region.
