EXPOSED: DCI Finally Reveals the Man Who Lured Wandeto Out of Her House at Night Before the Attack

Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers have finally revealed who lured gospel artist Rachel Wandeto from her house at night before her deadly attack.

Detectives identified taxi driver Josiah Njeru Njiru as the prime suspect in the case, saying he was the last person known to have contacted Wandeto before the incident.

Investigators also believe he was the individual who allegedly convinced her to leave her home on the night she was attacked.

The DCI has asked a Makadara court to allow detectives to detain Njiru for 21 days as investigations continue.

Officers said they need more time to collect CCTV footage, trace key witnesses, and carry out forensic examinations on exhibits recovered during the probe.

According to court documents filed by the DCI, Wandeto was attacked on the night of May 15, 2026, in Mwiki, Kasarani. Detectives stated that she left her residence at about 9.00 pm after allegedly being contacted by the suspect.

In an affidavit presented to the court by Chief Inspector Raphael Wanjohi from the Homicide Investigations Bureau, investigators said Wandeto was assaulted and doused with a flammable substance, leaving her with severe burn injuries.

She was later rescued and rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital in critical condition. However, she died on May 18, 2026, while receiving treatment.

Detectives told the court that the burns covered more than 70 percent of her body.

Investigators further claimed that the suspect had shared his location near Wandeto’s residence on the night of the attack despite not living in the area.

They also recovered several items during his arrest, including identity cards, clothes, documents, and a mobile phone, which are expected to undergo forensic analysis.

The DCI informed the court that detectives are still pursuing additional evidence, including witness statements, DNA analysis, an identification parade, and a mental assessment of the suspect.

Investigators also argued that the case has attracted significant public attention, raising concerns over the suspect’s safety if released.

They maintained that he could interfere with investigations or flee before the enquiry was completed.

The DCI requested that Njiru remain in custody at Kilimani Police Station or any other police facility until investigations are finalised.
