Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has stirred fresh political debate after warning Deputy President Kithure Kindiki that loyalty alone may not guarantee him a place on President William Ruto’s 2027 presidential ticket.
Speaking during a televised interview and later through his social media platforms, Njiru claimed that Kenya’s political landscape is highly unpredictable and that alliances often change rapidly as elections draw closer.
According to him, Kindiki could be politically outmanoeuvred if he assumes his current position automatically secures his future as Ruto’s running mate.
The remarks come amid growing speculation within the ruling United Democratic Alliance over possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Although the party has not officially discussed its future ticket, reports of internal lobbying and competing interests have continued to emerge behind the scenes.
Kindiki has largely maintained a calm and low-profile leadership style since assuming office, earning praise from supporters who view him as loyal and dependable.
However, political analysts argue that factors such as regional voting strength, coalition-building, and shifting alliances could heavily influence President Ruto’s eventual choice of running mate.
Njiru’s comments have drawn mixed reactions across the political divide. Some allies of the President dismissed the claims as unnecessary speculation designed to create tension within government ranks.
They insisted the administration remains focused on governance and development rather than early succession politics.
Others, however, believe the warning reflects growing competition within the Mt Kenya political landscape, where influence ahead of 2027 is increasingly becoming a key issue. The debate has now intensified attention on Kindiki’s political future and the evolving dynamics within Kenya’s ruling coalition.
