“Worked Under Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki, Now Told to ‘Go Home’: Uhuru Kenyatta Pushes Back on

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed frustration over what he describes as attempts to sideline him from public discourse, despite his long record of service in Kenya’s leadership.

Speaking in a candid tone, Uhuru referenced his years of experience working under past administrations led by Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki, emphasizing that his contributions to the country did not suddenly become irrelevant after leaving office.

Uhuru noted that during his political journey, he gained valuable insight and experience by serving in different capacities, including as a cabinet minister and later as president.

He suggested that such exposure places him in a position to offer guidance and perspective on national issues.

However, he lamented that whenever he speaks publicly or attempts to share his views, some critics quickly dismiss him as “retired” and insist that he should step away from active engagement.

The former head of state appeared to challenge this narrative, arguing that leadership does not end with the expiration of a presidential term.

Instead, he maintained that former leaders still have a role to play in shaping national conversations, mentoring younger politicians, and safeguarding democratic values.

His remarks seem to reflect a broader debate within Kenya’s political space about the role of retired leaders and how much influence they should wield after leaving office.

Uhuru’s statement may also signal his intention to remain relevant in the country’s political and social affairs, even as new leadership takes center stage.

While some view his continued involvement as necessary and beneficial, others believe that the space should be left entirely to current office holders.

Nonetheless, his comments underline an ongoing tension between experience and transition in Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
