"Your Days Are Over" Ruth Odinga Reacts To Sifuna-Led Linda Mwananchi Reception In Kisumu, States The Following

Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has taken to Facebook to praise the people of Kisumu for maintaining peace and upholding democratic values during the Linda Mwananchi rally led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Sunday April 26 2026. She described the city as a bastion of peace and democratic maturity.

Odinga acknowledged that a few individuals had attempted to fuel tension ahead of and during the rally but said residents chose dignity over disruption.

She expressed gratitude that the people of Kisumu refused to be used as pawns in what she described as dangerous political games.

She went further to directly accuse certain leaders of trying to sabotage the event by mobilising and allegedly funding sections of the youth to cause chaos and block the meeting from taking place.

She said those tactics backfired badly because Kisumu residents saw through the scheme and chose peace instead.

Odinga was particularly sharp in her condemnation of what she called transactional politics and the politics of the pocket.

She described the practice of using young people as hired muscles for disruption as an insult to voters' intelligence and a direct threat to Kenya's democracy.

"The days of treating our youth as hired muscles are over," she stated making clear that this approach has no place in the kind of political culture she believes Kisumu stands for and deserves going forward.

She also delivered a strong reminder about constitutional rights saying that freedoms of movement and association are not personal favours granted by any individual leader.

These are rights enshrined in Kenya's Bill of Rights and no politician has the authority to deny any person or group access to any part of the country.

Odinga stressed that Kisumu belongs to its people and not to any single faction or figure.

She said all political actors whether aligned to Linda Mwananchi other opposition formations or even UDA should be free to access the city without intimidation or fear of violence.

Her statement comes against a backdrop of internal ODM tensions that have been building for months.

Some local ODM figures including Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi had publicly declared the Kisumu rally would not happen prompting Odinga to break ranks and defend the right to free assembly.

Political observers see her intervention as a significant moment. As a senior member of the Odinga family and the elected representative for Kisumu her voice carries weight in shaping how the region responds to the internal battles now gripping one of Kenya's most powerful political parties.
