Man Returns Home After 47 Years, Finds Wives Have Remarried And With New Families

An 84-year-old man who vanished from his village nearly five decades ago has finally returned home, only to discover that the two wives he left behind have long since moved on.

Peter Oyuka disappeared from his Kakamega County home in 1974 at age 37, telling family he was leaving to seek greener pastures. He provided no clear timeline for his return and made no effort to communicate during his absence.

For years, his two wives waited in uncertainty, clinging to hope that he would come back. But as time passed with no word of his whereabouts, both women eventually remarried and built new families.

Oyuka’s unexpected return has stirred deep emotions and controversy. While he expressed disappointment that his wives had chosen other husbands, he acknowledged that his 47-year disappearance contributed to their decision.

Adding a layer of irony, Oyuka revealed that during his decades away, he had settled in Tanzania, where he entered another relationship and fathered a child.

His journey home was made possible by a Good Samaritan who shared his story on Facebook, helping trace his roots and reconnect him with his extended family.

Local residents have reacted with mixed feelings. Some question whether Oyuka had any right to expect his wives to remain single for nearly half a century.

Others sympathize with the elderly man’s emotional longing for the past. The reunion, while poignant, underscores the lasting consequences of silence and absence.
