Winnie Odinga Opens Up on Pressure From Her Mother Over Marriage Timing

Winnie Odinga brought laughter and excitement at a high-profile traditional wedding after making a playful joke about her mother, Ida Odinga.

The event was the colourful wedding of Catherine Jepchumba, daughter of businessman Kiprono Kittony, who tied the knot with her Nigerian fiancé, Tobi Durotoye.

The ceremony blended Kalenjin and Nigerian traditions, attracting several prominent guests and creating a lively atmosphere.

During the celebrations, Ida Odinga invited her daughter to stand beside her while addressing the guests.

However, when Winnie was handed the microphone, she quickly turned the moment into a humorous one that left many in stitches.

Winnie jokingly said her mother was being “a little cheeky” and suggested that Ida had called her forward after noticing the Nigerian groomsmen.

She teased that her mother might have been trying to push her into marriage, sparking laughter and applause from the audience.

The light moment quickly spread online, with many Kenyans praising Winnie for her sense of humour. Some social media users found her remarks entertaining, while others jokingly reacted to her mention of Nigerian suitors.

Winnie’s comments also brought back memories of her 2022 statement, where she humorously said she would only get married at State House if her late father, Raila Odinga, won the presidency. The remark had similarly amused supporters at the time.

The wedding itself was a glamorous affair, showcasing culture, unity and celebration. Winnie’s joke added a personal and memorable touch to the occasion, highlighting her lively personality.

Her ability to connect with people through humour once again stood out, making her one of the most talked-about figures at the event.
