Mizani Africa Opinion Poll Reveals Ruto's Commanding Lead In Nakuru, Opposition Trails

A new opinion poll by Mizani Africa shows William Ruto leading in Nakuru County with 36.5 percent support. However, the figures reveal a race that is still highly competitive and far from settled.

The poll places Fred Matiang’i at 14.8 percent, positioning him as the strongest challenger in the fragmented field. Edwin Sifuna follows with 12.0 percent, maintaining a notable but divided share of the vote.

Kalonzo Musyoka comes in at 10.9 percent, further splitting opposition support across multiple figures. This division continues to weaken the opposition’s immediate competitiveness despite strong combined numbers.

When aggregated, opposition candidates surpass 51 percent, suggesting a numerical advantage over Ruto. Yet this potential majority remains ineffective without a unified political direction.

The poll also identifies 12.0 percent of voters as undecided, making them a decisive bloc. Their choices could ultimately determine the winner in what remains a fluid contest.

Ruto’s lead is therefore rooted more in opposition fragmentation than overwhelming popularity. As long as rival camps remain divided, his plurality advantage is likely to hold.

However, the dynamics could shift rapidly if opposition leaders agree on a single candidate. Such a move would significantly narrow the gap and reshape the race into a direct contest.

The findings highlight a deeper strategic reality within Nakuru politics. Elections are not won by isolated support, but by coalitions and alignment.

Nakuru County now stands as a potential battleground rather than a secure stronghold. The final outcome will depend on whether opposition forces can convert numbers into unity.
