Gladys Wanga Remains Favourite To Defend Her Seat In 2027 According To Latest Survey, Details

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has emerged as the frontrunner to retain her seat in the 2027 General Election, according to a new opinion poll released on May 5, 2026.

The survey, conducted by Swiss Poll International, shows Wanga commanding a strong lead with a 58.7% popularity rating among voters in the county.

The findings suggest that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairperson enjoys significant grassroots support, placing her well ahead of her closest challengers.

Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero ranked second with 15.3%, narrowly edging out former Homa Bay deputy governor Oyugi Magwanga, who garnered 15.1%.

Meanwhile, Hesbon Omollo, brother to Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, trailed with 2.6%.

The poll also revealed that 8.3% of respondents remain undecided, indicating that while Wanga holds a commanding position, the race could still shift as political campaigns intensify.

“Our latest survey shows incumbent governor Gladys Wanga firmly ahead, underscoring strong support as the race takes shape,” Swiss Poll International stated.

“However, the tight contest between Kidero and Magwanga for second place suggests a competitive battle for the alternative vote.”

The survey sampled 5,500 respondents and has a margin of error of ±3% at a 95% confidence level, lending credibility to its findings.

Despite her dominance in Homa Bay politics, Wanga is also reportedly being considered in ongoing discussions involving President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), where she is said to be eyeing the deputy president position ahead of 2027.

With the election still over a year away, political alignments and voter preferences may evolve, but Wanga currently appears firmly in control of the race.
