Court Papers Reveal Room Where Obwaka Requested to Rest After he Shared a Meal With Wangare

A key suspect in the death of renowned gynaecologist and Nairobi Hospital director, Dr. Job Obwaka, has been presented before the Kibera Law Courts as investigations into the high-profile case intensify.

The suspect, Beatrice Wangare, was arraigned on Monday, May 4, 2026, following her arrest earlier in April. Authorities have identified her as the last person seen with the 83-year-old medic before his sudden death.

Court documents reveal new details about the events leading up to Dr. Obwaka’s demise.

According to investigators, the veteran doctor had visited Wangare’s residence, where he reportedly consumed a meal prepared by her. After eating, he is said to have requested to rest in her master bedroom.

Prosecutors allege that Wangare later joined him in the room, where the two became intimate. It was shortly afterward that Dr. Obwaka reportedly developed severe complications and collapsed.

Following the incident, Wangare is said to have contacted a neighbor, Shadrack Korir, for assistance. Upon arriving at the house, Korir reportedly found the doctor lying unresponsive on the bed, dressed in a white vest and black trousers.

However, investigators have raised concerns over inconsistencies in Wangare’s initial account.

She had earlier told detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that the doctor experienced breathing difficulties after she offered him a glass of water, which he had allegedly requested after the meal.

Due to these conflicting statements, detectives now suspect possible foul play and are exploring the likelihood of poisoning.

Court filings indicate that Sergeant Rhoda Nzioka outlined the sequence of events as part of the prosecution’s request for further detention.

The DCI has applied for a 14-day custodial period to allow investigators to complete forensic analysis and gather additional evidence.

Authorities are seeking to detain Wangare at Kilimani Police Station or another suitable facility as the probe continues.

The case has drawn widespread attention in Kenya, given Dr. Obwaka’s stature in the medical field and his long-standing service at Nairobi Hospital.

As investigations progress, authorities are expected to conduct toxicology tests and further interrogations to establish the exact cause of death.

The court is set to determine whether the request for extended detention will be granted as detectives work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the doctor’s final moments.
