Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has publicly called out a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders, accusing them of opposing the party’s decision to support President William Ruto’s government even before the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking to the media today, Mbadi claimed that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and other unnamed ODM members had shown clear resistance to the party’s new political direction.
According to Mbadi, the leaders had expressed discomfort with ODM aligning itself with President William Ruto’s administration long before Raila’s passing.
“They have been against the move even earlier. If they feel they cannot support Ruto’s government, they should come out clearly and tell the party why,” Mbadi said.
The CS insisted that internal democracy allows members to express dissent but challenged those opposed to the arrangement to formally present their reasons to the party so that a collective decision can be made.
“Let them address the party openly. Let them explain their stand so that the party can decide on the way forward,” he added.
Mbadi’s remarks come at a time when a section of ODM leaders, led by party leader Oburu Odinga, have publicly declared support for President Ruto’s government, signaling a significant political shift within the opposition party.
The developments have exposed growing divisions within ODM, with some leaders backing cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration while others remain firmly opposed.
Political observers say the unfolding events could shape the future direction of ODM as the party navigates its post-Raila era and redefines its role in the country’s political landscape.
