What's Cooking? United States Rejects Muhoozi Apology As It Demands The Following Against Uganda

A senior United States senator has dismissed an apology issued by Ugandan General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and has renewed calls for tougher action against the Ugandan government.

The move signals rising diplomatic tension between Washington and Kampala.

Jim Risch, who chairs the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the apology did not address the seriousness of recent actions linked to Muhoozi.

He argued that deleting controversial social media posts and expressing regret was not enough to repair the damage caused.

Muhoozi, the son of President Yoweri Museveni and a high-ranking military officer, had recently shared a series of online posts that drew strong criticism from US lawmakers.

The posts were widely circulated before they were removed, increasing concerns about Uganda’s leadership and conduct on the international stage.

Risch described Muhoozi’s behavior as part of a wider pattern that reflects poorly on Uganda’s commitment to democratic values, responsible leadership, and respect for international partners.

He said stronger measures were needed to discourage similar actions in the future.

The senator urged the US government to consider sanctions targeting Ugandan officials.

He said such steps would send a clear message that provocative conduct and disregard for democratic principles would not be tolerated.

Relations between the United States and Uganda have become increasingly strained in recent years.

While Uganda remains an important security partner in the region, Washington has repeatedly raised concerns over governance, human rights, and political freedoms.
