A serious road accident occurred along the Matuu-Mwingi road when a mini-bus carrying 33 passengers veered off the road and overturned into a ditch.
The incident happened at Mathauta area after the bus developed a mechanical problem. According to witnesses, the vehicle began reversing uncontrollably before the driver lost control, causing it to roll into the ditch.
The bus landed on its left side, trapping passengers inside. Panic spread quickly as passengers scrambled to escape through the windows. Some were able to climb out, while others remained stuck and required assistance.
First responders and local residents rushed to the scene, working together to rescue the injured.
Videos and images captured at the site showed rescuers pulling passengers out through broken windows and carrying those unable to move. Several passengers sustained serious injuries, with some lying on the ground in visible pain as others were evacuated.
Emergency teams acted swiftly, transporting the injured to Matuu Level IV Hospital for treatment. Medical staff at the facility confirmed that they were attending to multiple patients with varying degrees of injuries.
Police have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident.
