Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in the Rift Valley Region successfully intercepted a suspected drug trafficker in a dramatic operation along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway on March 14, 2026.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the incident began when officers on routine patrol flagged down a blue Toyota Voxy. The driver ignored police orders and sped off, sparking a high-speed chase towards Kaptembwa.
In an effort to stop the vehicle, detectives deflated its right front tyre. Despite the damage, the suspect continued driving before abandoning the car near Kaptembwa Police Station and attempting to escape.
The driver, later identified as David Muraya, was quickly apprehended by officers. A thorough search of the abandoned vehicle uncovered thirteen sacks of dry green plant material suspected to be cannabis sativa.
The consignment weighed approximately 272 kilograms and carried an estimated street value of Kshs. 8,160,000.
Muraya is currently in police custody and is expected to face charges in court.
Authorities believe the consignment was destined for distribution networks within the region, posing a serious threat to public health and safety.
DCI has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against narcotics trafficking.
