Vehicles Damaged, Property Destroyed in Kilimani Estate Following Heavy Rains (Photos)

Heavy rainfall struck Nairobi late in the evening, triggering flash floods that disrupted movement across the city and left roads submerged.

The downpour overwhelmed drainage systems in several neighbourhoods, forcing motorists through waterlogged streets while others were stranded overnight.

Areas such as Lower Kabete, Kibera, Kilimani, South B, Kawangware, Lang'ata and Lavington were among the locations affected by the flooding. In several of these areas, water quickly filled streets and residential compounds, making movement unsafe.

Kilimani was among the hardest-hit, with residents reporting damaged property and disrupted businesses after floodwaters swept through the area.

Estates along Likoni Lane in Kilimani faced strong currents that carried mud, debris and water into parking areas and homes.

Images and videos showed muddy streets and debris scattered across the neighbourhood. Vehicles parked along roads were damaged by rushing water.

Some cars were pushed from their parking spots, while others bore marks of impact from floating debris and fast-moving floods.

The aftermath of the flooding has raised concern among residents who fear that continued rainfall could cause more damage in the coming days. Calls for improved drainage systems have grown louder.

Nairobi has faced continuous rainfall in recent days, with repeated floods causing loss of lives, property damage and transport disruption.

Authorities urged the public to remain cautious, avoid flooded roads and refrain from driving or walking through fast-moving water to reduce risk.
