Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa on Saturday, February 28, defended Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna amid criticism from some state-allied leaders, saying the senator’s political actions should not be faulted as they align with what he termed a higher purpose.
Speaking in a measured and neutral tone, Barasa referenced leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi camp, including Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, noting that their stated objective is to serve and support Kenyans.
He added that both government allies and opposition leaders ultimately claim to be working toward the same goal of helping citizens.
The remarks were made during the burial ceremony of Sifuna’s patriarch, Papa Mathias Sifuna Sifunjo, which the Nairobi Senator attended.
Sifuna has been trending on social media with "Sisi Ndio Sifuna" slogans going viral as people support his stance to oppose President William Ruto.
During the same event, Wamboka dismissed calls by some Western region leaders who have urged Sifuna to support President William Ruto and postpone any presidential ambitions until 2032, stating that their camp does not back such proposals.
However, Sifuna has not officially declared a presidential bid for the 2027 General Election. In previous statements, he has maintained that he remains open to building alliances with other opposition leaders ahead of the next polls.
