Controversy continues in the Orange Democratic Movement as Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai has dismissed suggestions that Narok Senator Ledama Olekina could become the next Secretary General of the party.
In a social media post, Alai stated that his friend Ledama fears taking up the Senate role associated with the position and would have assumed it a long time ago if he were interested.
The comment came after another user claimed that Senator Ole Kina was hinting at his readiness to serve as ODM Secretary General following the ongoing uncertainty around Edwin Sifuna.
Alai appeared to set the record straight by suggesting that Ledama lacks the confidence or willingness to step into the influential party position.
His remarks add another layer to the internal wrangles within ODM, where questions about leadership succession have persisted for weeks.
Sifuna, the Nairobi Senator, has been at the center of party disputes after the ODM National Executive Committee moved to remove him from the Secretary General post earlier this year.
Although he obtained temporary protection from the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, calls for fresh leadership have grown louder from various party members and allies.
Observers note that the position of Secretary General holds significant power in shaping party strategy and mobilization ahead of future elections.
Speculation about possible replacements has included several names, but Alai's intervention indicates that Ledama may not be a serious contender in the eyes of some influential voices.
The developments reflect deeper divisions within the opposition party as it attempts to reorganize following recent political shifts. Analysts say such public exchanges could either accelerate the push for new faces or further complicate efforts to maintain unity.
