"Rest In Peace" Sad As Renowned Veteran Actor Passes Away While Undergoing Treatment In Nairobi

Kenya’s entertainment industry is mourning the death of veteran actor Joseph Githinji Mukaria, popularly known as Sgt. Obadiah or Mzae Comedy.

The long-time performer, who appeared in the famous TV show Vioja Mahakamani, passed away on Sunday, March 8, leaving fans and colleagues in deep shock.

Sgt. Obadiah was widely recognized for his strong presence in the classic Kenyan drama series that entertained audiences for many years.

His acting style and memorable characters made him a familiar face in many homes across the country.

Beyond television, he also built a following online under the name Mzae Comedy, where he created short comedy videos.

Family members said the actor died while receiving emergency medical care at Komarock Modern Hospital in Nairobi.

He had experienced breathing problems shortly before being rushed to the facility. Doctors attempted to stabilize him, but he later passed away. His relatives believe the breathing complications may have been linked to pneumonia.

The late actor was more than an entertainer. He was also a family man and a respected member of his community.

He was married to Evelyn Wanjugu Kimathi, the chief executive officer of the Dedan Kimathi Foundation. Evelyn is also the daughter of Kenya’s freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi and independence hero Mukami Kimathi.

Before focusing on acting and content creation, Sgt. Obadiah worked for many years with the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company and also served within the Nairobi county administration.

After retirement, he turned to farming in Ndimaini village in Nyeri County. Friends say he was passionate about environmental conservation and agriculture.
