A heated exchange was witnessed in the Senate after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna confronted Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana over remarks linked to President William Ruto regarding funds allocated to the House.
The disagreement arose during a Senate session where members were discussing issues related to parliamentary funding and the role of the Senate.
The debate quickly turned tense after Sifuna accused Mungatana of supporting information from the President that he said misrepresented the situation surrounding the Senate’s budget.
Sifuna argued that the Senate had been unfairly portrayed in public discussions about its funding. According to him, statements suggesting that senators were pushing for unnecessary resources were misleading and damaged the image of the House.
The Nairobi senator questioned why a fellow senator would publicly support such claims instead of defending the institution.
He maintained that senators have a responsibility to protect the credibility of Parliament and ensure the public understands the real work done by the House.
The exchange created a tense moment in the chamber as members listened to the sharp remarks directed at Mungatana.
Sifuna insisted that supporting inaccurate information only weakens the Senate and undermines the role it plays in oversight and representation of counties.
During the debate, Sifuna also dismissed claims that he was seeking attention through his criticism. He maintained that his concern was about defending the integrity of the Senate and correcting information that he believed was misleading to the public.
