President Ruto's Tongue Slips As He Accidentally Mispronounces This Word During Busia Tour, Details

President William Ruto drew attention on Monday after a minor linguistic slip during his development tour in Budalang’i, Busia County, briefly became a talking point among Kenyans on social media.

The president was addressing a large crowd that had gathered to welcome him during the visit, which was part of a series of engagements aimed at highlighting government development projects in the region.

Residents from across Budalang’i and neighboring areas had arrived early at the venue, filling the grounds as local leaders and security teams coordinated the event.

While delivering his speech, President Ruto spoke about the government’s plans to expand electricity connectivity in rural areas as part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and economic opportunities across the country.

However, during the address, he accidentally used the phrase “stima kufinga” instead of the intended phrase “stima kufika.”

In Kiswahili, the word “kufika” means “to reach” or “arrive,” a term commonly used when referring to electricity being extended to homes and communities through rural electrification programs.

The president’s pronunciation of the word as “kufinga” immediately caught the attention of some members of the audience.

Short video clips capturing the moment quickly began circulating online after the event, prompting reactions from Kenyans across different social media platforms.

Many users shared the clip while pointing out the slip of the tongue, with some treating the moment humorously while others simply described it as a common mistake that can occur during lengthy public speeches.

Despite the brief distraction, the main focus of the president’s visit remained the government’s commitment to improving access to electricity in rural parts of the country.

The administration has been emphasizing energy connectivity as a key pillar of development, arguing that reliable electricity supply can help boost small businesses, improve education services, and enhance living standards in underserved communities.

Local leaders who attended the event welcomed the government’s efforts to expand electricity infrastructure in Busia County, noting that many villages still require improved access to power.
