Drama has unfolded around Embakasi East MP Babu Owino after his brother in law Geoffrey Adjiki went missing and was later found in Machakos.
The lawmaker claimed Adjiki was arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and later disappeared without a trace.
In an update issued at 9.30am on Friday, Babu said Adjiki had been released in the early hours of the morning. He stated that his brother in law was freed at 4am and dropped off in Machakos after days of uncertainty.
According to the MP, the trouble began on Tuesday afternoon when six DCI officers allegedly picked up Adjiki.
Babu said his relative called him at about 4pm to report that he had been arrested and was being driven to the Nairobi Area Police Headquarters.
The legislator said he rushed to the police headquarters immediately after receiving the distress call.
However, he claimed he searched the entire compound and could not find Adjiki anywhere. Soon after that call, Adjiki’s phone reportedly went off.
Babu further alleged that his brother in law had been receiving threats from a powerful Principal Secretary.
He claimed they had met a day before the arrest and discussed the matter in detail. Adjiki allegedly feared that his businesses were being targeted.
The MP accused the unnamed PS of trying to intimidate a section of the Orange Democratic Movement linked to the Linda Mwananchi formation. He mentioned leaders such as Edwin Sifuna and James Orengo as part of the faction.
The disappearance happened just days before a planned Linda Mwananchi rally in Kakamega set for February 22. Babu insisted that the rally will proceed as planned despite what he described as organised attempts to frustrate it.
He also alleged that hired gangs were being mobilised from Kisumu to Kakamega to cause chaos during the event. He claimed the same official had been linked to past acts of vandalism against his property in Kitengela.
In a defiant tone, Babu challenged the Principal Secretary to appear in Kakamega in person on the rally day. He demanded that if there were any charges against Adjiki, he should be presented before a competent court of law.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has not issued a public response to the allegations. The incident has raised fresh questions about political tensions and the conduct of security agencies ahead of major opposition activities.
