Nyandarua Police Officer Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Killing unarmed Civilian

A police officer was sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing a man at a hotel in Nyandarua.

Officer William Muriuki Nyaga was convicted of manslaughter over Stephen Githinji's death on May 24, 2O2O, at Equator Springs Hotel.

He allegedly killed the deceased during a confrontation.

The body was taken to the mortuary, and an investigation revealed Nyaga wasn't acting alone.

Nyaga was arrested along with an accomplice, but was convicted alone. His family had called for investigations following the death.

He was sentenced on February 19, 2026, after a 3-year case. Police are searching for another suspect still at large.

The conviction brings some closure to Githinji's family, who've been seeking justice.

In a similar incident, a former Likoni OCS, Yunus, was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing an unarmed suspected thief during arrest.

These cases highlight concerns about police conduct and accountability in Kenya.

Authorities continue to investigate and prosecute such incidents to ensure justice is served.
