After months of quiet planning and internal engagements, the United Opposition technical team is set to retreat to present its findings to the coalition leadership.
Opposition heavyweights are expected to hold a closed-door retreat on Thursday and Friday at an undisclosed location, where they will receive and deliberate on the technical team’s report.
During the meeting, leaders are expected to discuss a shortlist of proposed coalition names, which insiders say will serve as a key branding tool aimed at winning public support and easing campaign marketing concerns.
According to The Star, the technical team has settled on at least two possible combinations for the opposition’s presidential ticket.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is reported to have emerged as the preferred presidential contender based on low-profile internal opinion sampling, with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i proposed as his running mate.
However, sources indicate that an alternative arrangement with Matiang’i as the presidential candidate and Kalonzo as his deputy has also been considered, highlighting the delicate balancing of interests within the opposition.
Notably, DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua was not shortlisted for the top seat despite publicly expressing his interest in succeeding President William Ruto.
