Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has responded sharply to Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago over comments the senator made while at his rural home on Sunday.
Addressing the issue on Monday morning, Sudi urged Mandago to concentrate on mourning and burying his mother before engaging in political debate.
He said it was inappropriate to introduce political matters during a period of bereavement, adding that there would be time to address political differences after the mourning period.
Sudi’s remarks followed Mandago’s public criticism of him, during which the senator appeared to endorse Soy MP David Kiplagat and Kesses MP Julius Rutto.
The two legislators are widely viewed as Sudi’s political competitors within Uasin Gishu County.
Mandago also questioned Sudi’s academic qualifications, comments that have fueled discussion among local leaders and residents.
The Kapseret lawmaker expressed surprise that political issues were raised in the context of a family loss, arguing that cultural norms discourage turning mourning gatherings into political platforms.
SufHe stated that once the burial is concluded, outstanding disputes could be revisited, including matters related to the Finland Scholarship program implemented during Mandago’s tenure as governor.
Sudi further suggested that efforts could be made to organize support for individuals allegedly affected by the initiative.
The exchange highlights growing political tensions in Uasin Gishu County ahead of the United Democratic Alliance party nominations, with endorsements and rivalries signaling a competitive contest in the region.
