The decision by Embu County Governor and UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire to fail to register herself as party aspirant ahead of the 2027 general election has sparked speculations.
According to the list released by the party on the distribution of aspirants across all the 47 counties, Embu County has no UDA party Governor aspirant.
The development has unsettled the political waters in the ruling party as arise on why Mbarire did not register as an aspirant.
Could it be that the former Runyenjes MP is not intending to defend her seat come the 2027 general election?
Mbarire comes from a region that is politically competitive. Perhaps this explains why few aspirants from the bloc registered to vie for elective positions on a UDA party ticket.
The emergence of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for Citizens Party is set to give UDA a fierce competition in the in the region.
With this in mind, Mbarire may have opted to play it safe.
