Ruto Dealt A Huge Blow As ODM Rebels Numbers Surge, Uhuru's Name Dragged In

Fresh political tensions are emerging within the Orange Democratic Movement as debate intensifies over a possible alliance with the ruling United Democratic Alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Reports indicate growing unease within ODM as the number of party members opposing a coalition pact with President William Ruto continues to rise.

This is despite warnings and threats of disciplinary action from leaders seen as supportive of closer cooperation with the government.

According to a report published by The Star newspaper, dissent within the Orange party has persisted even after rebel members were publicly identified and cautioned against opposing the proposed unity arrangement.

Rather than diminishing, resistance to the pact is said to be gaining momentum, complicating efforts to present a united political front.

The situation is viewed as a potential setback for President Ruto, who is widely believed to be counting on support from ODM to strengthen his re-election bid.

The unfolding standoff has also drawn in former President Uhuru Kenyatta, with some Ruto allies alleging that he is quietly backing the dissenting faction within ODM.

However, the rebel group, associated with ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, has dismissed claims that it is acting on Uhuru Kenyatta’s behalf.

The group insists its opposition is rooted in principle and internal party concerns rather than external influence.

As ODM continues to grapple with internal divisions, questions remain over whether the party can reconcile differing positions on cooperation with the government.

The outcome of this debate is expected to play a significant role in shaping Kenya’s political landscape as the 2027 elections draw closer.
