The outspoken Mount Kenya lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has directly confronted President William Ruto over the circumstances surrounding the death of opposition icon Raila Odinga, popularly known as “Baba.”
The fearless advocate, known for his no-holds-barred style and representation in high-profile impeachment cases, took to X on Saturday morning, posting: “Ruto tell us what you did to Baba.
Ulimfanyia nini ndio uweze kumsa firisha hadi Bondo bila yeye kujua? Kwa nini ulimfanyia ile kitu?” (What did you do to him that enabled you to campaign in Bondo without him knowing? Why did you do that thing to him?)
Many interpret it as a veiled accusation regarding the suspicious timing and details of Raila’s passing, his reported will stipulating burial within 72 hours, and Ruto’s apparent early knowledge of sensitive family matters.
Njiru, a Kirinyaga-born legal mind who has built a reputation as a “fearless” voice often aligned with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s camp, did not mince words.
His post appears to question how President Ruto was able to engage politically in Raila’s ancestral home of Bondo, under circumstances that suggested the veteran opposition leader was sidelined or incapacitated without public awareness.
Political analysts note that the lawyer’s intervention comes at a delicate time as Kenya grapples with the vacuum left by Raila Odinga’s death.
Questions continue to swirl around the former Prime Minister’s health journey, alleged secret medical trips, the drafting and execution of his will and the rapid burial arrangements that reportedly caught even close family members off guard.
President Ruto’s administration has faced mounting pressure from sections of the opposition and civil society for transparency.
Supporters of the late Raila have demanded a thorough inquiry, while others warn against politicizing the tragedy.
As calls for accountability grow louder, all eyes remain on State House for any official response. Whether Njiru’s provocative dare will elicit answers or further polarize the nation remains to be seen.
