In a candid statement, Sifuna acknowledged that what faces the opposition is tough because President William Ruto is an accomplished politician. He stressed that the opposition needs unity rather than a multiplication of presidential candidates.
“What faces us ahead is tough. Ruto is an accomplished politician. What we need in opposition is unity, not multiplication of presidential candidates,” Sifuna said. He added that the opposition should ensure Ruto faces only one candidate in the presidential race.
The senator expressed concern that selfish ambitions could hand Ruto victory by a narrow margin. “The last thing I want to see is Ruto getting to power by a 200k vote edge simply because we in opposition were selfish,” he warned.
Sifuna’s message comes as several opposition figures position themselves for the 2027 presidential contest. His call for a single coalition candidate reflects growing anxiety that fragmented opposition votes could benefit the incumbent.
Political analysts view the remarks as a direct appeal to prominent leaders who have shown interest in the presidency. With less than two years to the election, the push for unity is expected to intensify as opposition parties seek to avoid repeating past mistakes of division.
