Former Bomet Mayor Kipkemoi Barsumei has said that despite President William Ruto's UDA candidate winning in Emurua Dikirr by-election, the results clearly show that Rift Valley voters are beginning to express dissatisfaction ahead of the 2027 election.
He added that Dr William Ruto should be worried since former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua mounted a serious challenge against the ruling party despite not touching on the ground to campaign for DCP candidate.
“The fact that Mr. Gachagua, even without personally visiting the area, managed to help his candidate secure more than 10,000 votes is a sign that voters in this region are showing dissatisfaction ahead of the 2027 General Election,” said Mr. Barsumei.
Mr. Barsumei also said that three weeks ago President Ruto admitted that Rift Valley residents were not turning up in large numbers to register as voters during the IEBC registration exercise, an indication that many citizens may not be ready to re-elect him in 2027.
Additionally, the late MP’s widow, Nayianoi Ngeno, who had initially been declared the family’s preferred candidate, abruptly withdrew from the race under unclear circumstances.
She was later appointed to the board of a state corporation and endorsed Mr. Keter, a move that helped strengthen UDA’s campaign against the DCP candidate.
