Speaking at a public event, Mutuse said Kalonzo’s support is mostly in the Eastern region, raising questions about his ability to lead the whole country.
He argued that being popular in one region is not enough for someone who wants to become president of Kenya.
Mutuse said that if Kalonzo is serious about running for president, he should work to make his party known and accepted in other parts of the country. He added that a national leader must connect with people from all regions and communities.
“You cannot lead the whole country if your support is only in one area,” Mutuse said. “If he wants to be president, he must take his party to other regions and win support there.”
The MP explained that Kenyan politics needs leaders who think nationally and bring people together. He said political parties should build strong support across the country instead of depending on one region.
His remarks come as politicians begin preparing for the 2027 General Election. Kalonzo, who has been in politics for many years and once served as Vice President, has already shown interest in running for president.
Mutuse’s comments reflect a common concern in Kenyan politics, where leaders are often seen as strong only in their home regions. For any candidate to win the presidency, they must get support from many parts of the country.
Kalonzo has not yet responded to Mutuse’s remarks, but his supporters say the Wiper party is working to grow its support beyond Eastern Kenya.
