Controversial political analyst and commentator Alinur Mohamed has stirred fresh debate after boldly predicting that President William Ruto will trounce a divided opposition by a massive margin in the 2027 General Election.
In a post on X that has since gone viral, Alinur warned that unless key opposition figures Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, Edwin Sifuna, and Babu Owino put aside their differences and unite, Ruto will beat them with a margin exceeding 5 million.
“If Kalonzo, Gachagua, Sifuna and Babu don’t unite, Ruto will beat them by 6 am with over 5 Million votes,” Alinur stated.
His remarks come as the Sunday Nation newspaper splashed “Unity test” on its front page, highlighting ongoing efforts by opposition leaders to close ranks even as cracks continue to show.
The paper featured portraits of Rigathi Gachagua (Democracy for the Citizens Party leader), Edwin Sifuna (ODM SG and Linda Mwananchi faction), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Fred Matiang’i, Martha Karua, and Eugene Wamalwa, linked to a large crowd photo symbolising the push for a broad anti-Ruto alliance.
Alinur, known for his no-holds-barred analysis, pointed out glaring loopholes that could cost the opposition dearly.
He cited persistent mistrust, lack of a clear presidential flagbearer, parallel rallies and competing regional interests as major weaknesses.
“Leaders have downplayed differences, saying they are focused on their goal, but the reality on the ground shows cracks or strategy?” he questioned, echoing the Sunday Nation’s sub-headline.
According to the analyst, the opposition’s failure to present a united front and a single strong candidate is giving President Ruto and the ruling Kenya Kwanza alliance a free ride.
He argued that without genuine unity, the fragmented opposition risks repeating past mistakes where internal divisions handed victory to the incumbent.
Political observers note that recent parallel mobilisation efforts by Gachagua and Sifuna factions have only amplified perceptions of disunity.
