Sifuna Under Fire as ODM Launches Disciplinary Action Against Him Over Alleged Misconduct

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has taken formal steps to discipline its Secretary General, Senator Edwin Sifuna, over alleged misconduct and repeated breaches of party resolutions.

In a show-cause letter addressed to Sifuna and signed by ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga, the party accuses the Nairobi Senator of undermining collective authority through public statements, failing to attend key meetings, and participating in parallel political initiatives that appear inconsistent with the party’s official programmes.

The letter states in part, “You are hereby required to show cause, in writing, within four days from the date hereof, and in any event not later than close of business on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against you.”

Party insiders say the move comes amid growing tensions between Sifuna and other top ODM officials, particularly following internal disagreements over pre-election strategies and the party’s stance on upcoming political alliances.

Sifuna, who has served as Secretary General for several years, has been at the center of a faction within the party that has occasionally clashed with leadership over the direction of ODM.

The action is expected to send a strong signal to all party members about adherence to party protocols and collective decision-making.

Sources within ODM indicate that the party is keen to resolve the matter internally and avoid public disputes that could affect its electoral prospects.

If Sifuna fails to respond within the stipulated period, the party could proceed with further disciplinary measures, which may include suspension or removal from his current position.

The situation has attracted widespread attention among political commentators, as it highlights ongoing challenges in balancing individual political ambitions with collective party strategy.
