Ruto, Gachagua Set for First Public Meeting Since Impeachment at Kiaraho Requiem Mass

President William Ruto and his former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are expected to appear together in public for the first time since Gachagua’s impeachment, in what is likely to be a politically charged encounter.

The two leaders are set to attend the requiem mass of the late David Kiaraho in Nyandarua on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

Their anticipated presence at the solemn event is already drawing national attention, given the political fallout that followed

Gachagua’s removal from office and the widening rift that has since defined relations within Kenya’s ruling establishment.

Although the occasion is one of mourning, the expected meeting between President Ruto and Gachagua is likely to dominate political conversations across the country.

Since Gachagua’s impeachment, the former allies have remained publicly distant, with no major appearance placing them side by side.

Their attendance at Kiaraho’s requiem mass will therefore be viewed not only as a tribute to the late legislator, but also as a moment loaded with political symbolism.

Observers are expected to closely watch the leaders’ body language, interactions, and any remarks they may make during or after the service.

The requiem mass for the late Ol Kalou MP is expected to attract a host of political leaders, government officials, clergy, and residents from Nyandarua and beyond, as the country continues to mourn Kiaraho’s passing.

As a respected figure in local and national politics, Kiaraho’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief, with leaders from across the political divide paying tribute to his service and leadership.

However, beyond the tributes, attention is likely to remain fixed on the rare convergence of two men whose political relationship once formed a powerful alliance at the heart of government.

The appearance comes at a time when Kenya’s political landscape remains fluid, with alliances shifting and succession politics beginning to take shape ahead of future electoral contests.

For supporters and critics alike, the Ruto-Gachagua meeting may offer clues on whether the deep political tensions between the two camps are softening—or whether the encounter will merely be a ceremonial appearance without any broader political significance.

Even so, Wednesday’s event is expected to mark one of the most closely watched public gatherings in recent months.

As the nation gathers to honour the late David Kiaraho, all eyes will also be on Nyandarua to see whether the first public reunion between President Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua signals anything more than a shared moment of mourning.
