Matatu Driver And Conductor Caught On Camera Savagely Beating Passenger Over Bus Fare Dispute

A video showing a matatu driver and his conductor repeatedly kicking and punching a helpless passenger on the roadside has spread rapidly across social media causing widespread outrage among Kenyans.

The footage was first captured by popular content creator Brayoh Biker and later filmed by a pedestrian who witnessed the attack unfold in real time.

The 45-second clip shows the two crew members raining down blows on the man as he cowers on the ground completely defenceless.

The victim can be heard pleading for mercy as the beating continues while bystanders shout in protest at the roadside.

The assault only stops when the man somehow manages to break free and stumbles away visibly battered and in clear distress.

The dispute is reported to have started over a fare disagreement. Some accounts say the passenger refused to pay while others claim the money he had was simply not enough to cover the full bus fare.

Whatever the case onlookers and viewers who have since watched the clip agree that nothing justifies the level of violence that was unleashed on the man.

The matatu involved has been identified as belonging to Latema Sacco a well known public service vehicle operator in Kenya. That identification has shifted much of the public anger toward the Sacco with many demanding that it takes immediate responsibility for the conduct of its crew members.

Social media has been flooded with reactions since the video went viral. Many Kenyans are calling for the immediate arrest of both the driver and the conductor while others are pushing for the suspension of Latema Sacco's operating licence.

Several commenters have used the incident to renew calls for serious reform in the matatu industry which has long struggled with reports of violence intimidation and poor conduct toward passengers.

Latema Sacco had not issued any official statement by the time of reporting.

The identity of the passenger has also not been disclosed and it remains unclear whether he sought medical attention after the attack or whether he has filed a formal complaint with the police.

The incident has reignited a debate that surfaces regularly in Kenya about the conduct of public transport workers and the safety of passengers.

Fare disputes between matatu crews and passengers are common but rarely do they escalate to the kind of sustained physical assault captured in this footage.

Authorities have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the incident but pressure from the public continues to mount for swift action against those responsible.
