The High Court has extended orders blocking the State from interfering with the management of Nairobi Hospital, in a ruling that pushes back against recent efforts by President William Ruto to intervene in the facility’s affairs.
In the decision, Justice Gregory Mutai further barred the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) from taking action against hospital officials over alleged tax violations until the matter is fully heard and determined.
The ruling comes shortly after President Ruto publicly declared his intention to shield the hospital from individuals he accused of attempting to seize control through questionable means.
Speaking during an inspection of the Cheptais modern market in Mt Elgon on March 17, 2026, the Head of State said he had been approached by senior doctors and professionals seeking urgent government intervention.
According to the President, medical staff and stakeholders raised concerns over alleged schemes by certain individuals to take over the hospital unlawfully.
He emphasized that Nairobi Hospital remains a critical healthcare institution serving both Kenya and the wider region.
Ruto assured that his administration is committed to protecting the facility’s operations and ensuring it is not undermined by fraud or mismanagement.
