A high-stakes consultative meeting held on Thursday between the Orange Democratic Movement ODM and President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance UDA has exposed deep seated tensions over political turf.
Despite a public show of unity the Nation has learned that sharp disagreements emerged between the two parties especially over zoning and grassroots expansion.
President Ruto’s camp pushed to expand UDA’s footprint into opposition strongholds.
This move according to sources collided head on with ODM’s demand for political safeguards of its perceived territories ahead of the 2027 elections.
ODM leaders made it clear that they want their traditional strongholds protected from UDA’s aggressive expansion strategy.
On the other side UDA argued for open competition and the freedom to recruit members and establish structures in every part of the country including areas long considered ODM zones.
The meeting which was meant to ease political tensions instead revealed how difficult it will be for the two parties to coexist peacefully as the next general election approaches. Each side wants to grow its influence but neither is willing to give up ground easily.
