“I Am Ready To Face Sifuna as a Man” Lelelit Challenges Senators After Parliament Scuffle

Samburu Governor Lati Lelelit has raised alarm over his safety, claiming his life is under threat following an alleged assault by three senators outside the Senate over skipped summons and contempt allegations.

Lelelit attempted to meet Senate leadership to address the matter, but his efforts were blocked, forcing him to leave the premises without engaging the committees.

He later spoke to the media outside Parliament, explaining his absence from committee proceedings and expressing frustration over the handling of the situation by senators.

The briefing was abruptly interrupted when a group of senators confronted Lelelit, escalating tensions and resulting in the alleged assault as he reportedly ran away from the confrontation.

In a fiery statement, Lelelit described the senators as “goons” and challenged them to meet him man-to-man, insisting he was friendly before the confrontation turned physical.

“I did not even know those senators were coming. I asked what was wrong, but one of them from that stupid guy Sifuna touched my coat,” Lelelit said.

He vowed to face all three senators directly, emphasizing that he would not back down. “I am ready to face Sifuna as a man; in fact, not just him, the three of you—we square this out,” he added.

The governor’s allegations have intensified the already tense relations between county leaders and the Senate, drawing criticism and support from different quarters of the political spectrum.

Lawmakers and political analysts warn that the incident risks further eroding decorum in Parliament, highlighting the need for dialogue and respect between elected officials.

Samburu residents and local leaders have expressed solidarity with Lelelit, calling for accountability and urging the Senate to investigate the incident thoroughly to prevent future confrontations.
