Gachagua in Hot Soup Over “You Were Paid KSh 5 Million to Sabotage Raila’s 2022 Presidential Bid”

Lawyer and political commentator Miguna Miguna has weighed in on fresh claims by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, dismissing allegations that Junet Mohamed was paid KSh 5 million to sabotage late Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential campaign.

Speaking amid renewed political tension within the opposition and the broader national landscape, Miguna termed the claim “illogical and unrealistic.”

He argued that the figure being mentioned does not match the political stakes involved in a presidential race, especially one as competitive as the 2022 contest.

According to Miguna, it would make little sense for a senior politician like Junet Mohamed—who was a key ally and insider in Raila’s campaign—to undermine a bid that could have elevated him to a powerful Cabinet position had they won.

“You don’t trade that level of political opportunity for such an amount,” he remarked, questioning the credibility of the allegations.

The claims by Gachagua have sparked debate online and within political circles, with some leaders calling for evidence while others dismissing it as part of ongoing political battles and realignments. Junet Mohamed has yet to respond publicly to the accusations.

Tensions within both the ruling alliance and opposition ranks have occasionally spilled into public view, with accusations and counter-accusations becoming more frequent.

Analysts say such statements reflect deeper divisions and shifting loyalties rather than clear-cut evidence of wrongdoing.

As the country moves further from the 2022 elections and closer to the next political cycle, narratives around what happened—and who did what—are likely to continue shaping public discourse.
