"Waende Gym Na Waache Kuharibu Hewa" - President William Ruto Ignites Crowd With Gym Joke

President William Ruto today sparked laughter during a public rally as he continued his five day development tour across Western Kenya.

Speaking to residents in Kakamega County, the President delivered a playful but sharp jab aimed at unnamed political rivals. His humorous remarks quickly caught the attention of the crowd and later spread widely online.

During the speech Ruto joked that some leaders should spend time in the gym instead of sleeping during meetings.

He said a few politicians have stomachs that are “about to burst” and often doze off in daytime gatherings.

The crowd responded with loud laughter as the President continued with the teasing remarks.

In the widely shared video clip Ruto also told the unnamed figures to stop eating too much food. He joked that some leaders sleep in meetings until they even “spoil the air.”

The remark drew cheers from supporters who packed the rally ground to hear him speak about development plans.

Although the President did not mention any specific names, many Kenyans online quickly began guessing who the comments were directed at.

Some social media users suggested the remarks could have been aimed at former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i while others believed they targeted impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The speculation comes after recent online debates involving Matiang’i. Earlier in the year photos circulated on social media showing him appearing to sleep on a plane during a trip.

The images triggered heated discussions among political supporters and critics. Some bloggers allied to the government mocked the photos while his allies defended him strongly.

Gachagua has also faced frequent political jabs since his impeachment. The former Deputy President has publicly criticized Ruto in several speeches.

He once joked about the President’s weight loss saying Ruto had become so slim that his ears stood out more than before.

Ruto’s Western Kenya tour focuses mainly on development projects and youth empowerment initiatives.

The President is promoting programs such as the NYOTA youth fund and several infrastructure projects across counties in the region. His rallies however often include humorous comments that energize supporters and keep crowds engaged.

Clips from the speech spread quickly across Facebook and X where thousands of users shared and debated the remarks.

Some Kenyans found the joke entertaining while others said leaders should focus more on serious national issues. The moment once again showed how political humor continues to shape Kenya’s lively pre election conversations.
