ODM party leader Oburu Oginga has reaffirmed his commitment to maintain a working relationship with President William Ruto’s UDA party as Kenya approaches the August 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an Eid luncheon in Kisumu County, Oburu emphasized that the existing political arrangement has created a platform for development in regions traditionally aligned with ODM.
He explained that the cooperation between the parties, under the framework of a broad-based government, has produced tangible progress.
According to Oburu, focusing on established partnerships before seeking new alliances is a practical approach for political strategy.
Oburu’s stance was backed by Gladys Wanga and Junet Mohamed. Gladys Wanga pledged ODM’s support for President Ruto’s re-election campaign through the 'Tutam' movement.
Junet Mohamed raised concerns about certain leaders with controversial pasts attempting to seek national leadership and encouraged the Muslim community to exercise caution in their political support.
The remarks came amid President Ruto’s four-day tour of the Nyanza region, where he is scheduled to inaugurate significant projects.
One of the major developments includes the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to Kisumu, with plans to continue the line to Malaba. Ruto also revealed that he has invited his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni, to attend the official launch of the project.
