"Have You Treated Him Presidentially?" Kindiki Steps In To Defend Ruto Amid Attacks From Opposition

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has stepped up to defend President William Ruto amid rising political tension and sharp public criticism.

Speaking during a public event, Kindiki accused opposition leaders of focusing more on attacking the president instead of offering solutions to Kenyans.

He said the political space has shifted from issue-based debate to personal attacks, which he described as unhelpful to the country.

Kindiki argued that those criticising the president cannot demand high standards of leadership while at the same time showing disrespect to the office.

He maintained that respect for leadership must be mutual and consistent, especially in a democratic system where institutions matter.

He also downplayed the influence of some of the president’s critics, describing them as politically weak and lacking a strong track record.

According to him, many of the voices leading the attacks have not demonstrated significant leadership experience or delivered meaningful change during their time in office.

The Deputy President further signalled a shift in strategy within government ranks. He indicated that the president may reduce direct engagement with critics and instead allow his allies to respond to political attacks.

This approach, he suggested, would allow the president to focus more on governance and development.

The remarks come at a time when political exchanges between the government and opposition leaders have intensified. Some of the criticism has gone beyond policy disagreements to include personal remarks, raising concerns about the tone of national discourse.

At the same time, opposition leaders have continued to push back strongly against the president. Siaya Governor James Orengo and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi have called for possible impeachment proceedings. They argue that the president’s recent public statements do not reflect the dignity expected of the office.
