The Media Celebrates When Ruto Is Abused But Cry When Ruto Fires Back, Vocal Ruto Ally Alleges

Peter Kaluma has criticized Kenyan media outlets, accusing them of biased and inconsistent reporting in their coverage of the ongoing political tensions involving William Ruto and his former deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

In a statement shared on his official X account on March 20, Kaluma claimed that the media has adopted a partisan stance, particularly in how it reports verbal exchanges between the two leaders.

He argued that media outlets appear to tolerate or even celebrate criticism directed at the president, but react negatively when the president responds.

Kaluma described this as hypocrisy, stating that such reporting reflects a loss of objectivity within the media. He maintained that balanced journalism should apply the same standards to all parties involved, regardless of political affiliation.

The legislator also called on key state agencies, including the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, to investigate allegations raised during the public exchanges.

He urged the agencies to take action on claims related to corruption and other serious matters, emphasizing the need for accountability.

Kaluma’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions in the country, following recent public statements by President Ruto that have drawn mixed reactions.

While some Kenyans have criticized the tone of the president’s remarks as inappropriate, others argue that they were in response to provocation from opposition figures.

The debate has further highlighted divisions in public opinion, with growing scrutiny on both political leaders and the media’s role in shaping national discourse.

Observers note that such exchanges underscore the increasingly charged political environment as the country moves forward.
