ODM’s Political Earthquake: Kaluma Reveals Four Big Names Set for ‘Release’ to Rival Camp

Peter Kaluma has triggered intense political debate after announcing a major development within the Orange Democratic Movement ahead of its upcoming National Delegates Convention.

In a statement dated March 20, Kaluma indicated that the party is set to “release” four prominent leaders during the convention scheduled for March 27, 2026. Those named include James Orengo, Babu Owino, Edwin Sifuna, and Godfrey Osotsi.

In Kenya’s political context, the term “release” often suggests that members are free to exit or realign with another political formation.

This has fueled speculation that the four leaders could be heading toward a faction informally referred to as “Chachagua,” which observers associate with political forces aligned to William Ruto.

The announcement has raised questions about internal cohesion within ODM, as the individuals mentioned are considered influential figures within the party.

Orengo is a long-serving party stalwart, while Owino and Sifuna represent a younger but highly vocal segment of the leadership. Osotsi also holds significant influence in western Kenya politics.

Political analysts say that if the reported realignment materializes, it could significantly alter the balance of power within the opposition and reshape alliances ahead of future elections. Such a move would also signal a possible shift in loyalties among key leaders who have historically been aligned with the opposition.

As of now, ODM’s top leadership has not issued an official response to the claims. With the National Delegates Convention approaching, attention is now focused on whether the development signals a broader internal restructuring or a strategic repositioning within Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
