"ODM Must Get More Than 50% Of The Govt" Vocal ODM MP Says On Coalition Deal With UDA, Details

Peter Kaluma has argued that the Orange Democratic Movement should receive more than half of the positions in government if it forms a coalition with the ruling United Democratic Alliance.

The Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament said the opposition party commands strong national support and therefore deserves a larger share in any power-sharing arrangement.

Kaluma’s remarks have revived debate about possible political cooperation between Orange Democratic Movement and United Democratic Alliance. The two parties have been on opposite sides of the political divide since the last general election.

According to Kaluma, any serious coalition between the two political outfits must reflect the political strength and influence of ODM across the country. He believes the party remains one of the most popular political movements in Kenya and has a large support base in many regions.

The lawmaker said a coalition should not only focus on sharing positions but also on ensuring that the political interests of supporters are respected. In his view, giving ODM a majority share in government would help balance power and build trust between the two parties.
