"Nobody Will Be Expelled" Oburu Oginga Declares During Party SDC Amid Growing Divisions, Details

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is navigating a delicate moment as internal divisions become more visible.

Party leader Oburu Oginga has stepped in with a firm message aimed at holding the party together while maintaining discipline among its members.

Speaking at a Special Delegates Convention held at Jamhuri Grounds, Oburu made it clear that ODM will not expel dissenting voices.

However, he stressed that unity must be matched with order. His position signals a balancing act between allowing open debate and protecting the party’s structure.

The divisions within Orange Democratic Movement have largely formed around two factions, known as Linda Ground and Linda Mwananchi.

These groups have taken different paths on the party’s direction, even holding parallel meetings on the same day. This has raised concerns about the party’s stability ahead of the next general election.

Oburu’s stance appears to respond to calls from within the party for tolerance and dialogue. Among those advocating for unity is Winnie Odinga, who has pushed for inclusivity rather than confrontation.

Her appeal reflects growing anxiety among members who fear that internal disputes could weaken ODM’s political influence.

Even as he welcomed diverse opinions, Oburu warned that leadership positions come with responsibility.

Members who openly go against agreed party decisions risk losing their roles. This approach aims to protect party cohesion without silencing debate completely.

Beyond internal matters, ODM is also looking ahead. Oburu revealed plans to begin structured talks with the United Democratic Alliance as part of early preparations for the 2027 elections.

He emphasized that areas where ODM already holds elected positions will not be open for negotiation, signaling a strategy focused on protecting existing political ground.
