A family in Utawala is demanding justice after their ten-year-old son was allegedly beaten by a teacher at Bridgerose Jewels Academy, leaving him hospitalised with serious injuries.
The incident has sparked outrage among parents and residents after reports emerged that the pupil was punished for failing to properly complete an assignment.
According to the family, the teacher first punished the boy in front of other pupils before taking him to an empty classroom where the beating continued.
According to the guardian of the victim, the teacher caned 30 strokes right there in class, and then after that took him to an abandoned classroom and caned him 90 more strokes.
The child was later rushed to hospital, where doctors confirmed he had suffered severe injuries, including a broken hand.
His family says the pain has made it impossible for him to sit, bend, or walk properly.
The guardian explained that the boy cannot walk, sit, or even go to the toilet due to the pain caused by the injuries.
The family also revealed that the child has been forced to use nappies because of his ccondition.l
When the boy’s mother went to the school to seek answers, she says she was confronted and harassed by security guards and members of staff, including the teacher accused of the assault.
She further stated that she found the teacher still present in school and continuing with his lessons despite the incident.
Efforts by journalists to obtain a response from the school administration were unsuccessful.
Reports indicate that the deputy principal showed little concern about the matter and instead told the mother she should be grateful that the school paid for the child’s X-ray.
Police have since launched investigations into the incident, and the teacher accused of the assault is reportedly missing.
The boy’s mother says she will continue to pursue justice for her son as authorities investigate the case.
