Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly condemned the arrest of senior officials at The Nairobi Hospital, terming the move unlawful and politically motivated.
In a statement posted on his X account on Monday, March 16, 2026, Kalonzo expressed deep concern over the detention of hospital board chairman Dr Job Obwaka and former chairman Dr Chris Bichage.
The opposition leader claimed the arrests were carried out on direct orders from President William Ruto.
“What is unfolding at The Nairobi Hospital is deeply troubling. The arrest of Board Chairman Dr. Job Obwaka and former Chairman Dr. Chris Bichage, under direct orders from President Ruto, is absolutely unacceptable and entirely criminal,” Kalonzo stated.
According to the Wiper leader, officials from the hospital informed him that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations were responsible for the arrests and were allegedly acting under instructions from the President.
Kalonzo argued that the move undermines the rule of law and raises serious concerns about political interference in independent institutions.
The arrests come amid an escalating leadership wrangle at the hospital that has attracted national attention. Over the weekend, police detained three senior figures linked to the facility’s management.
Those taken into custody include board chairman Dr. Obwaka, vice chairman and lawyer Samson Kinyanjui, and former chairman Dr. Bichage. Investigators are reportedly probing allegations that the officials falsified the hospital’s membership register and engaged in conflicts of interest.
The dramatic arrests have intensified the ongoing dispute surrounding the governance of The Nairobi Hospital, with political leaders and stakeholders now demanding transparency and due process as investigations continue.
